Shape Based Selections

A great way to enhance photos is to create shape based selections. They can be used to crop your photos so that they are within a pre-defined shape. The technique is very basic; however, you can achieve amazing selection effects through this technique.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Open your image.

2. Switch to quick mask mode by pressing Q or clicking as shown in the figure.

3. Go to custom shape tool and select any shape of your choice. I have chosen heart shape for my image.

4. Now switch back to normal mode by pressing Q. Now press shift+ctrl+I to inverse the selection. You can see a heart shape selection above my face. Copy and paste the selection in a new file.
