PixelXS.com will be closing over the next few months. I'm in the process of making a new website; Domonline.net, which will contain all of the tutorials on this website, Photoshop goodies, and some of my portfolio work. Links from tutorial directories will be redirected to their new location, so accessing my tutorials from there will still be simple.

Twirls
  • Uses Adobe Photoshop 7.0 and higher

    1. Open up a new document. For this tutorials, i have used the dimensions 400x400.

    2. Apply Clouds to your first layer. To do so, Go to Filter > Render > Clouds
    3. Now go to Filter > Pixelate > Mezzotint and set the type to Long Strokes, like so.

    4. Now we need to use a radial Blur.
    go to Filter > Blur > Radial Blur amd use the following settings.
    Amount : 100
    Blur Method : Zoom
    Quality : Good
    now press CTRL + F to repeat this step twice.

    5. now we need to apply the Twirl.
    Go to Filter > Distort > Twirl and use any angle you want. i will be using 145.

    6. Now Repeat steps 2 - 5 on a new layer, but using a different angle on the twirl. once you have done so, Press CTRL + U to colorise the layer. I applied a Red to the twirl.

    7. now set the layer mode of the second twirl you done to Lighten.

    You can apply as many twirls as you wish, but remember to set the Layer mode to Lighten, and to use different colours to make them stand out.
