Intro:

This tutorial will show you how to make a scuffed up 3d looking metal plate with round edges and blood spatters.

Step 1:

Open up a new project with the size of your choosing, I used 300x300px. Then make a round edged shape with the rounded rectangle tool, don't forget to change the radius to 10px, the color doesn't matter for now we'll change that later in the blending options. 10px is the nicest radius for a content box, but you can have it differently if you want.

Step 2:

Right-click your shape in the layers palette and choose blending options. Then apply the following settings:

Step 3:

Take out the brush tool Scuffed metal plate and choose a normal soft brush. We have to add a scattering on the brush to make the result more random, on the top right you have 3 tabs, "Brushes", "Tool presets" and "Layer comps". Hit the Brushes tab and change the scattering to the settings below.

Change the foreground color to black (#000000). Make a new layer (ctrl+shift+n) and name this layer Scuff base. Then Ctrl+Click the shape layer in the layers palette to make a selection of it. Now you can start brushing on the Scuff base layer. Below is what I have so far.

Step 4:

Next we have to add a filter to the Scuff base layer. Go to Filter > Texture > Grain, and use the following settings: Intensity: 44, Contrast: 59 and Grain type: Regular. Change opacity to 17%. Give this layer a reddish color with Hue/Saturation (shortcut: Ctrl+U). Check Colorize and change the values to your likings.

If someone's interested here's the final (beta) image of the new tutorial I'm working to get done soon, > Link < I'm aware of the jagged lines at some of the letters, it will be gone once the tutorial is done. Tell me what you all think, thanks.

Hello m8, what up? I'm writing a new text effect tutorial, this one explains how to use the "warp text" function to your advantage which creates very nice depth and a realistic feel to it. It's almost as if the text was created with Cinema4D or 3DSMax Wink I'm doing my very best to have it online soon, but since I have another job besides managing my sites I got very little time.
