[PS] Crazy Effect Tutorial
Level: Easy
In this tutorial I will try to explain to you how to create an effect somewhat similar to the effect used in the clip of "Crazy - Gnarls Barkely".
What you need: at least one picture of a face, Photoshop
Here is an example of what I made:
(bigger version on my DeviantArt page)
Ok, let's first open photoshop, and use a new 700x700 canvas. Though any size you want will do.
Open a new layer.
We start by drawing lines over the canvas, but try not to reach the borders. USe the brush tool for this.
Now we will make it that weird shape.
Filter -> Blur -> Gaussian Blur -> 10
Filter -> Distort -> Pinch -> 65%
Filter -> Artistic -> Watercolor -> 9 1 1
Now go to File -> Open, and open the picture with a face. If you take it from the internet, you can just copy and paste it on a new layer.
Select the lasso tool (on the left side of your screen, or you can press L), and mark a circle around the face (you can include as much of the face as you want, even ears.)
Now press Ctrl + C (which is copy), and close the image. Now click on your first canvas, make a new layer, and press Ctrl + V (which is paste).
Now press Ctrl + T (which is transform), and size it to the size you want it to be. I'm gonna use a pretty small size, because I will be duplicating it later.
When you've placed and sized it, press any tool in the toolbar, and a popup will appear. Select apply.
Now use the eraser to remove stuff you dont want in the pic, if you haven't been too accurate with the lasso tool, like me

Don't worry about erasing too much, it doesn't really matter with the effect we're using.
Now do the next steps:
Image -> Adjustments -> Desaturate
Image -> Adjustments -> Brightness/Contrast -> +100 contrast
Now select the "thing" layer again, and go to Sharpen -> Smart Sharpen -> 500%
(I also duplicated my face, I like that effect, but a single face is cool too)
Now play around with it. Add some more pics. Not only faces, but hands, arms, legs, bottles, houses, instruments, anything you can think of.
This is what I did with it:
And that's it!
Hope you have fun with it
Note: If your faces have too much shading on them, you can add some lighting in the Brightness/Contrast menu.
