Basic Web 2.0 Style Reflection

This tutorial will teach you how to create a simple reflection. Here it shows you how to achieve it with text, but the seem techniques can be applied for any other element you wish to add one to when designing your site.

1. First create your text, for the purpose of this tutorial I'm using the word REFLECTION. I'm using white text on a black and gray gradient background, you can use what ever is needed for your site.

2. Next you want to duplicate this text layer, so right click it and press 'Duplicate Layer...'.

3. Whilst still on the duplicated layer go to Edit -> Transform -> Flip Vertical. Now move the layer down un till its positioned directly under the original text (I leave about 3px gap between the two but its up to you).

4. Now still on the duplicated layer, right click on the layer and press 'rasterize types'. Now still with the same layer selected 'add a new layer mask' (found at the bottom of the layers palette). Select the gradient tool and select black to transparent and draw over the text layer.

5. Now go to 'layer style' and on 'blending options' change the blending opacity to anywhere between 5-20% is usually good.
