Creating a button with a cool fire effect
See how you can make a great fire effect to implement in many objects you create in Photoshop.
Now we are going to make a button or banner graphic with a fire effect, this effect can be converted to any other kind of object then a button, but to keep it simple we are going to make a simple button out of it.
1.
First we are going to define a for- and a back color for your pallet, one with yellow and one with red as you can see from the image below.
2.
Now go to filters -> Render -> clouds, which will generate a random cloudy pattern with de colors we just set. Then go to edit -> Adjustments -> levels and set the three arrows closer together in the middle in the graph, see the image below.
3.
Then go to filters -> distort -> polar coordinates and set it to polar to rectangular and hit ok. Now your image should look something like this.
4.
Now we are going to make the shape that will contain this effect, so make a new layer in your layers panel and place it just above the layer we just worked on.
Use your rectangular selection tool and make a selection to fit you button or object, then go to selection -> modify -> smooth and give it an amount to about 20
5.
Then fill the selection with a random color of your choice, because it will be overwritten by a gradient later. (go to edit -> fill and choose a color)
6.
Now while holding down ctrl key click the button layer then select the layer with the fire effect and go to the selection menu -> invert and the hit delete. Now only the part within the button is fire, all around it is deleted.
7.
Go to the layers style panel for the button layer, and give it a gradient as in the image below. You can also give it a drop shadow and what ever other style effect, I also gave it a bevel and emboss, to give the button some depth.
8.
Now your image should look something like this.
9.
Create a new layer above all other layers, and name it reflection, then hold down ctrl and click on the layer with the button shape, then grab the elliptical selection tool and set the selection mode to intersect with selection.
10.
Then drag a selection on the top part of the button, so it intersects with the selection from the button layer.
11.
Grab the gradient tool and define a gradient from white to invisible as the image shows below.
12.
Now your image should look like this, and the only thing we need is to make some content, I'm just going to put in a normal text with some default styles from the layers styles.
13.
I just created a text with white color and put in the following style settings.
Then I scaled down the text opacity so it was about half seethrough, and see the result at the top.
