In this tutorial you will learn how to give text this effect(notice how the i and n form 1 single letter):

photoshop tutorial step 6

Start with a new document, it doesnt really matter which size it has, I used the following settings:

photoshop tutorial step 1

Now take out your text tool, and type some random text, I used dublin because the i is a great letter to use with this technique. Just try it out yourself, you can do this technique with most letters, but make sure the word is still easy to read.

Once you got some nice text go to the paragraph menu, where you can edit thinks like text-outlining and textsize. If you cant find it look on the next picture.

Now place your cursor between 2 letters you want to merge(I used the i and the n), now begin changing the value in the kerning box till you think it looks nice.
If you add a value larger then 0, you will make the space between letters bigger, if you enter a value smaller then 0, then the space will become smaller, and eventually the two letters will merge.
I used these value's and this was my result:

Now I just added some nice effects and here you have a nice and simple logo:

photoshop tutorial step 6

I just made a new layer under the text layer and made it blue, then I selected the text layer and I added a border around the text of 2 pixels.
Thats all, really easy and it gives a nice result if you ask me
