From Real To Painted

It takes a lot of skill to accurately paint a real life object - but if you dont have that sort of time on your hands and are looking for a quick solution your at the right place.

This tutorial will show you how to make a real-life photo look as if it has been painted.

The first step is to get a photo. You should of course use your own.

Im using the following image:

Ok now you need to Press Ctrl + U or alternatively go to Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation. Set the Hue & Saturation to about 35. You can however change this to suit your image.

Now go to Filter > Artistic > Cutout. Then set the following:

Number of levels: 8
Edge Simplicity: 0
Edge Fidelity: 3

I now have this:

Right click on your image layer and duplicate it. Then go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur and the radius to 4px. Then set the layer mode to Darken. I have the following:

Were almost done. All we need to do now is flatten the image to make it look that bit more effective. Go to Layer >> Flatten Image. Then go to Filter > Sharpen > Sharpen.

Here is my final result:
